  1. Women’s Health & Fitness – Week One

Fact vs Fiction: WATER AND WEIGHT LOSS
Fiction: Hydration does not affect weight loss
Fact: Water consumption facilitates weight loss

Back story: Keeping hydrated can work as an appetite suppressant. It is difficult for the body to tell the difference whether it is hungry or thirsty. The Mayo Clinic supports drinking two glasses of water prior to eating. Why? You will consume fewer calories. Also, water assists your body’s organs in performing some of their required functions. If there is not enough water, the kidneys will delegate some of their filtering of toxins function to the liver. The liver is designed to help metabolize fat. If it now has extra work from the kidneys, it will not metabolize your fat efficiently.

Exercise: A loss of hydration can prevent you from exercising with an effective amount of intensity because the body is not able to adapt to dehydration and your circulatory functions will be impaired.

Bonus: Water is your best beauty treatment. It flushes out impurities in the skin. Sagging skin, either due to aging or weight loss, will plump up nicely when skin cells are adequately hydrated.

Moral of the story: Drink MORE water. It is the elixir of life!
